Ses plus de 100 000 habitants bénéficient d’un climat doux et souvent ensoleillé, qui vaut à la ville le surnom de « Sunny Worthing ». La cité est connue comme station thermale depuis la fin du XVIIIème siècle.
Le jumelage avec Les Sables d’Olonne existe depuis 1987.
